How do I get an RSS feed for a Reddit search?
Every Reddit search has a feed. Put your keyword after q= in one of these addresses:

sort=newputs the newest posts first, which is what you want for alerts.type=linkkeeps the feed to posts. Without it, a search feed can also list subreddits whose names match.restrict_sr=1keeps the search inside the subreddit in the address.

How do I write a good Reddit search?
Reddit's help center lists a few search operators, and they work in feed addresses too:
- AND between words means every word must appear:
coffee AND grinder. Without it, a post only needs some of your words to match. - OR matches either word, and NOT leaves a word out:
grinder NOT manual. Write all three in capitals. - Parentheses group words:
(espresso OR coffee) AND grinder. - Fields narrow the search:
title:,subreddit:,author:,site:,selftext:(the text of the post) andflair:. Leave no space after the colon, and put quotes around several words:title:"rss reader".
In the feed address, write a space as %20 and a double quote as %22. So title:"rss reader" becomes q=title:%22rss%20reader%22.
How do I get notified about new matches in Feeder?
- Click Add feed, paste the search feed address and click Follow.
- Right-click the feed in the sidebar and choose Edit feed.
- On the Settings tab, under Notifications, turn on Mobile, Desktop or Sound. These work on every plan, Free included.

How do I filter a subreddit by keyword instead?
A search feed lets Reddit decide what matches. To let Feeder do the matching, follow the subreddit and add a rule. Feeder's rules match whole words, and you can use wildcards like grind*.
- Click Add feed, choose Reddit under Social media, type the subreddit's name, pick New posts and follow the feed.
- Click Rules in the sidebar, then New rule.
- Under What should happen?, choose Filter posts. Under Select feeds, pick the subreddit.
- Under Match posts that, keep Contain, type your keywords and click Save rule.
- Turn on notifications for the feed, as above. Feeder doesn't notify you about posts a rule hides, so you only hear about matches.

Reddit's feeds list up to 25 posts. In a very busy subreddit, some posts can scroll out of the feed between two checks. A search feed makes that less likely, because it only lists the matches.
How fast do Reddit alerts arrive?
Feeder alerts you when it next checks the feed and finds a new match. On Free, feeds update every 2 hours by default, and you can set a feed to update as often as every 30 minutes. On Plus, Feeder checks Reddit feeds as often as every 10 minutes. That is as fast as Feeder checks Reddit on any plan, because Reddit limits how often apps can fetch its feeds. When Reddit turns requests away, a feed can fall behind for a while.
