It depends on how you read the post. In Simple mode, the default, Feeder shows the text the site put in its feed, and the site doesn't see a page visit. In Full mode, or when you open the post on the site, your browser loads the site's own page, so it counts as a visit like any other.
Which ways of reading count as a visit?
| How you read | Does the site see a visit? |
|---|---|
| Simple mode | No. Feeder shows the text from the site's feed, so the site's page and its analytics don't load. Images in the post usually still load from the site's servers. |
| Full mode | Yes, in most cases. Feeder shows the site's own page inside the reader, so the page and its analytics load in your browser. Some analytics tools count a page shown inside another page differently. |
| Open the post on the site, or in the app's In-app or External browser | Yes. It is a normal visit to the site. |
Marking a post as read only changes it in Feeder. Feeder doesn't tell the site what you read.
How do I switch between Simple and Full?
- Web and extension: open a post and select Simple or Full above it, or press F.
- iPhone and Android apps: open a post and use the Simple switch at the top right. Turn it off to show the original page. To always open posts on the site, set Open posts in to In-app browser or External browser in Settings.
If Full shows Connection refused, the site doesn't allow other sites to show its pages. See Display modes for what to do.
I run a website. Does Feeder count my readers?
Feeder's servers fetch your feed once for all the people who follow it, so your server logs show Feeder, not each reader. Your analytics count a reader when they read in Full mode or open the post on your site.
