A rule watches the feeds you choose and acts on every new post that matches your keywords. It can star the post, mark it as read, add it to a collection or send it to Slack. Rules are part of Plus ($7.99 a month billed yearly, or $9.99 monthly) and Professional.
How do I create a rule?
- Click Rules in the sidebar, then New rule.
- Under What should happen?, pick an action, for example Add to collection.
- Under Select feeds, pick the feeds or folders the rule should watch.
- Under Match posts that, choose Contain or Don't contain, type your keywords, and choose where to look: in the title, the summary or the URL.
- To add another condition, join it with AND or OR.
- Name the rule if you like, then click Save rule.
For example, a rule that adds every new post with Apple in the title to a collection called Technology keeps your Apple news in one place without any sorting by hand. For how keywords, phrases and wildcards match, see How keyword matching works in Rules.
A rule acts on posts that arrive after you save it. It doesn't go back through posts you already have.
What can a rule do?
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Star posts | Stars matching posts, so you can find them later. |
| Mark as read | Marks matching posts as read, so they stay out of your unread list. |
| Highlight | Highlights the keywords you choose in matching posts. |
| Add to collection | Adds matching posts to a collection you pick. |
| Translate posts | Translates matching posts into the language you pick. Plus translates up to 10 posts a day, Professional up to 5,000. |
| Filter posts | Shows only the posts that match, and hides the rest. |
| Filter duplicates | Hides posts with the same link or title as one you got in the last 7, 14 or 30 days. Professional only. |
| Post to Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord or Telegram | Sends matching posts to a channel. Professional only. See Automatically post news to Slack. |
| Post to Webhook | Sends matching posts to a URL you choose, so you can connect your own tools. Professional only. See Build your own integrations using Webhooks. |
Professional is $14.99 per user a month billed yearly, or $19.99 monthly. Posting to Twitter is no longer available, because Twitter closed the API it used.
Common questions
Can I match one keyword or another?
Yes. Choose Any keywords to match a post that has at least one of them, or add a second condition and join the two with OR.
Can I use different keywords for different feeds?
Yes. Create one rule for each group of feeds, each with its own keywords.
Why does my rule say "Needs a paid plan to run"?
Rules don't run on the Free plan. Your rules stay saved, and they start running again when you upgrade to Plus or Professional.
Still stuck? Email support@feeder.co with the name of the rule and a post it should have matched, and we'll take a look.
