Support for JSON Feed

We’re excited to announce that Feeder now joins ranks of softwares that support the emerging JSON Feed standard.

It’s hard for me to convey just how excited I am for the JSON Feed standard. It’s so simple, so elegant but oh so powerful.

So what is JSON Feed?

Feeder, in essence, is an RSS feed reader that also supports the Atom feed standard. These are really old faithful standards that have been around since 2002 and 2005 respectively. Both are based on the quite complex text format XML. This complexity is translated to the softwares that have to parse and understand the contents. It leads to bugs, inconsistencies and bad interoperability.

JSON Feed changes this by being based on the amazingly well supported JSON text format, yet still bringing most elements over from RSS and Atom.

What will this mean for me as a Feeder user?

Not much! You will be able to subscribe to more feeds now that Feeder understands more formats.
